A clinical study was made on 68 cases of female breast cancer that had been treated during 6 years and 3 months from May 1966 to Aug. 1992 at the Department of Surgery, Seoul Adventist Hospital.
@ES The following results were obtained.
@EN 1) The most prevalent age group was 5th decade (31 cases, 45.6%).
2) Main clinical manifestation was palpable mass on breast at the time she visited the hespital (60 cases, 94.1%).
3) The most frequent site of location was upper outer quadrant (31 cases, 45%). the tumor was located in the right side in 36 cases (52.9%), left side in 32 cases (47.1%).
4) The most prevalent size of tumor was 2~5 cm (41 cases, 60.3%).
5) In review of correlation between tumor size and metastasis of the axillary node was 43.0% in smaller than 5 cm and 83.3% in larger than 5 cm, respectively.
6) The most frequent histopathologic type was infiltrating ductal carcinoma (53 cases, 77.8%). According to TNM system, the most common stage was stage II (37 cases. 54.5%). The stage III was 26.4% and stage I was 10.3%.
7) Axillary lymph node was clinically palpable for 18 cases (26.5%), impalpable 50 cases (73.5%), and false positive was 16.7%, false negative 40.0%.
8) The most common diagnostic method was excisional biopsy (39 cases, 57.4%). The incisional biopsy was performed in 9 cases (13.2%) and fine needle aspiration in 8 cases (11.8%).
9) The most common used operation type was modeified radical mastectomy (48 cases 70.0%) and the postoeprative adjuvant therapy was followed in 20 cases (42.6%).
10) Postoeprative complication was developed in 20 cases (29.5%) of the pateitns; seroma and ipsilateral edema was 5 cases (21.8%), skin necrosis and wound infection was 3 cases (13.0%), respectively.
11) The rollow up was possible in 12 cases (41.2%).
12) The recurrent rate was 42.7% in the postoeprative 1~2 years interval.
